Blog Party What Now?
Being somewhat new to this whole blogging thing, I'm also rather unsophisticated in my understanding of things like memes, blog hops, and twitter parties (heck, I'm still figuring out what Twitter really is, much less how to how to party over there). I don't know that I'll ever figure it out completely, but I what I do know is this: As a pediatric speech therapist, I've got a lot of really good information to share with parents who want to know more about their child's speech and language. I'm building this site to do just that-- to provide accurate information about speech and language development, share proven strategies you can use to enhance your child's speech, provide ideas for fun activities to build language, guide you through the steps to take if you are concerned about your child's development, and give you a place to ask questions to someone who spends her days working to help children develop speech and language.
I'd love to make this information available to lots of parents, and the Ultimate Blog Party being hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom seems like a really great way to do that. That being said, this will be one of the very few times that I post something like this on my site-- I really want the site to be mainly about speech and language for those of you who come here for that reason. But for those of you who have come here to party, welcome! And party on.

I look forward to reading your posts! My one year old has Down syndrome, so we work with several therapists, but I love hearing whatever information I can find on the subject! Do you ever do posts on kids with special needs?

ReplyDeleteDeanna- your daughter is beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done any posts on working with specifically kids with special needs, yet, although many of the strategies I've posted work for every child!(You might find the sign language posts helpful!)
As my blog grows, I'd like to have a section of posts on working with kids with special needs specifically as well (which is what I do all day!) I also welcome any questions via e-mail, blog comments, or facebook page, and will answer those as well.
I feel the same way about posting things out of my niche on the site but then I remember that sometimes, especially when starting out, it's necessary to step out like this in order to help people find you!
ReplyDeleteI've found so much help in your site already and look forward to reading more! I would say I'm stopping by from UBP since I am doing it, but I'm stopping by from my reader!
Hey there! Love the premise of your site, seems like it stands to be a really fabulous resource.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, the main thing that creates a successful blog is being willing to engage and socialize, so you should be willing to join things like this in the future as well. They are a great was to make connections and create engaged readers. You've got a strong niche, and you can surely be successful... As long as you have realistic ideas about what you need to do to gain readership. This type of party is such a strong place to start!! :)
Great to meet you and best of luck!
Hi LindsayDianne,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the notes, and the advice! I need all I can get as a new blogger. :)
I should clarify...I do really work on making connections to other people's blogs... I love exploring blogs, and commenting, and participating in link-ups, etc. There is SO much out there to be seen! It's just that I don't think I'll post my own link-ups that aren't related to speech and language very often...because I really want to dedicate this space to providing information! I may, though, do some link-ups in the future around speech and language activities-- I personally LOVE all the sites that are out there with fabulous ideas about child development, activities for kids, etc, and it would be so fun to have people come over and share their sites for my readers, too! :)
Off to check out your blog now. :)
Becca
Holy smiley faces in my comment, sorry! Although if you met me in real life, you'd know I really do smile that much!
ReplyDeleteI'm here from the UBP11 and I'm so glad you linked up! I have a daughter with apraxia and I am always looking for ways to help her along with her development. I look forward to reading through your site.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for offering your expertise! I cannot wait to read more your blog. My 7 year old daughter has expressive/receptive language disorder and, while she receives speech services at the public school, I home school her. I have a feeling, I'll be dropping by here often.
ReplyDeleteMany blessings,
Marcia

ReplyDeleteHi everyone! Please let me know how I can make this blog helpful to you... feel free to leave comments with questions/suggestions, or e-mail me your questions/suggestions at childtalk01@yahoo.com. Happy Partying! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you decided to join in the UBP - I so appreciate the blogs I have found that are written by SLPs and OTs.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so thankful for all of the therapists who have helped us teach our son how to communicate. We are mainly working on pragmatics and social skills these days, and having a lot of fun explaining all the idioms and cliches that people use all the time without realizing it!
Looking forward to reading more of your blog. :)
Visiting you via the UBP11. Nice to "meet" you. My son receives speech therapy at his preschool. Like @Deanna's daughter, he has Down syndrome. He and his little sister are absolute blessings in our life. Looking forward to reading your posts. I had written a few oral-motor and speech posts on my blog (see post by category). Of course, it is geared toward special needs (Down syndrome) and our personal experience. I hope you can come by and visit too.
